J&K fencer Tariq wins gold in National School Games

JAMMU: Ace fencer from Jammu and Kashmir State, Tariq Hussain brought laurels to the State by winning gold medal in the individual foil events in the 62nd All India National School Games being held at Telangana, recently.
Tariq defeated opponents from the States of Punjab, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and host Telangana in the National School Games. In the first match, Tariq defeated Vidya Bharti convincingly in the foil event with the score read as 10-5 while he outplayed his opponent from Punjab in the second match with the score 10-4.
It was a cake-walk for Tariq in the third game against Telangana and became victorious with the score 10-6.
Tariq also mauled his Kerala opponent with the score read as 10-7. However, a nail-biting finish was witnessed against Chattisgarh but Tariq emerged victorious with the score read as 10-9. The son of a farmer and student of Ranbir Higher Secondary School Jammu, Tariq had been doing regular practice at Maulana Azad Stadium Jammu under the guidance of Rachna Jamwal, coach J and K State Sports Council. It is not out of place to mention here that Tariq Hussain also won silver medal in the recently concluded U-23 Youth Fencing Championship held at New Delhi.
