Urdu Deptt organises seminar on Mirza Galib

JAMMU: “Galib was one of the greatest poets of Urdu world who projected the realities of life not only in his Urdu and Persian poetry but also in his prose. He had also projected the progressive thoughts in his poetry”.
These words were spoken by illustrious speakers during the one day Inter-nation seminar on the topic ‘Progressive Trends in the Poetry of
Mirza Galib’ organised here on Saturday by the Department of Urdu, University of
Jammu, here.
Dr Taki Abdi form Canada in his detailed keynote address threw light on the different dimensions of Galib’s poetry and described him not only a universal poet but also a progressive one, who in his poetry has projected the realities of life. Dr Abdi said that there is a direneed to re-discover Mirza Galib and described him poet of humanism. He added that his Persian poetry is also important.
The veteran writer Mohd Yousif Taing, who presided over the inaugural function, described Galib a tall Urdu poet who had written Urdu poetry on different dictions and themes and is also considered the poet of 19th century who had rendered marvelous service for the upliftment of urdu language and literature.
Prof. Desh Bandu, Dean Academic Affairs, was the Chief Guest who described Urdu as a sweet language and said that he can read and write Urdu and had written short stories in Urdu.
Dean Research Studies Jigar Mohd also spoken on the occasion.
Earlier in his welcome address Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, HoD Urdu threw light on the life and works done by the Mirza Assdullah Khan Galib. He described him a poet par excellence and prose writer of high repute.
Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed conducted the proceedings of the programme while Dr Chaman Lal presented vote of thanks.
Later two academic session were held in which delegates from Japan, Iran, Egypt and Canada presented their paper on the subject. A question answer session was also held in which audience asked various questions to the paper presenters which they replied satisfactory. Those who participated in the question answer session include Dr Farhat Shamim, Dr Chaman Lal, Richa Bargava, Dr Shakula and others. Dr A. R Manhas conducted the proceeding of the academic session. The academic s`essions were presided over by Dr.Aqeel Ahmed, Bashir Bhaderwahi, Aseer Kishtwari and Prof. Khwaja Ekram-ud-Din.
