Civil society remembers Mufti Sayeed;’Transparency, accountability key to good governance’

JAMMU: Civil Society for Development of J&K (CSDJK) State in collaboration with Government College for Women, Parade organised a rendezvous with eminent speakers on ‘Good Governance-A Way Forward’.
Students of College participated in the event and laid thrust on good governance saying that it becomes the basis for transparency and accountability for establishing rule of law. They said good governance is all about making ‘correct’ decisions in a democratic system where people are mostly dependent upon government decisions and policies. Principal of the Institution, Dr Aruna Dubey, Professor Bharat Anand, Geeta Thakur, Shishu Gandotra, Darshan Mangotra besides, galaxy of lecturers,
professors and students of different
departments of college were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmad said that essence of good governance lies in having a corruption free society. He said when right people are placed at right place good governance automatically begins to percolate from top to bottom adding that legislators, executives, judiciary and press besides bureaucrats, heads of department and individuals who constitute society must all contribute in their own way to give future generation a clean and transparent system of governance.
Pardeep Dutta, Bureau Chief Times Now in his address said that good governance can only be ensured when Right to Education besides all civil rights of commoners must are exercised in a free and fair atmosphere. He asserted that journalist fraternity also has to set examples of honestly and ethics while conducting its professional duties to be part of good governance. Dutta added that women must not hesitate in standing up to their issues and speaking up for their rights.
Remembering former Chief Minister J and K State late Mufti Mohamamd Sayeed for having introduced concept of good governance, Puneet Singh Jamwal said that it was he who introduced State Accountability Commission and held elections to local bodies besides municipalities to ensure that governance is decentralised and a transparency maintained.
