JAMMU: District Congress Committee, Jammu Rural, criticised the Central Government led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1,000 currency notes and termed it one of the biggest scam in the history of independent India.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Manmohan Singh Katoch, Observer In-charge J and K flanked by Subash Manglete, Co-Coordinator of J and K MoS Himachal Pradesh and Hari Singh Chib, senior Congress leader said that the decision of Prime Minister has adversely affected the farmers, labourers, small traders and shopkeepers. The Congress leaders demanded adequate compensation for the labourers, poor farmers small traders and next of kins, who lost their lives due to demonetisation. They demanded that the restriction on withdrawal of money should be lifted with immediate effect.
Among others who were present in the press conference include Thakur Suram Singh, Jatinder Singh, Hoshiar Singh Chib, Sandeep Manhas, Dr. Kulbir Rana, Advocate Pankaj Sharma, Rohit Katoch, Somnath Sharma, Jung Bahadur Sharma, Harnam Dass, Dev Raj, Monika Sharma and Fakir Chand.
