Weapons looted by terrorists yet to be recovered

JAMMU: At least 63 weapons looted by the terrorists between March 2016 and December 2016 have not been recovered by the security forces in Kashmir Valley till date.
This information was shared by the Minister-in charge Home Department while tabling a written reply in the lower house of the State Assembly in response to a question submitted by Independent Legislator Abdul Rasheed on Tuesday.
According to the written reply maximum number of 23 SLR rifles, 19 AK -47 Rifles, 13 INSAS rifles and one Taser Gun, six Pistols and one Pika gun were looted from different locations including police stations, security pickets outside VVIP’s residences etc.
Only one INSAS rifle and three AK 47 rifles have been recovered by the security forces while all other cases were under investigation.
Along with these weapons large number of rounds of AK rifles and SLR ammunition was also looted by the militants.
The Minister incharge Home department also informed the state legislature that after July 8, 59 youth have joined ranks of militant outfits.
As many as 2,690 cases have been registered in connection with stone pelting incidents in Kashmir.
The highest number of 492 stone pelting cases were registered in Sopore, followed by 339 in Srinagar, 318 in Baramulla, 271 in Anantnag and 218 in Kupwara.
On the other hand 463 people were also detained under Public Safety Act out of whom 145 were released, with 318 still under detention as on December 29.
The cases are under investigation, she said, adding that 76 people, besides two policemen, lost their lives during the unrest in Valley. In addition three cases pertaining to excessive use of force by security forces have been registered, the Home Minister informed the State Assembly.
