NC MLCs pay tributes to Dharamveer Oberoi

JAMMU: A day ahead of the Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature, National Conference Members of Legislative Council on Sunday held a condolence meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here and paid glowing tributes to veteran leader and MLC Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi, who passed away the other day.
Presided over by the Leader of the NC in the Upper House, Ali Mohammed Dar, the legislators observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the late leader and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
“The passing away of Oberoi has created a void which is hard to fill”, Dar said while recalling the contribution of the late leader in ameliorating lot of people and strengthening the party at grass roots level.
Present in the condolence meeting included Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Dr Shehnaz Ganai, Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Qaiser Jamshed Lone, Master Noor Hussain and Showkat Hussain Ganai.
Sajjad Kichloo described Oberoi an ace legislator who always raised the matters of public interest vociferously while Dr Shehnaz Ganai said that the late leader had vast political experience which inspired younger generation of National Conference to serve the people with a sense of devotion.
Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri and Qaiser Jamshed Lone referred to the great role of Oberoi as Administrator of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and a pro-active legislator, who always espoused the cause of poor and down trodden.
Showkat Hussain Gani and Master Noor Hussain also paid rich homage to Oberoi, saying his role in strengthening National Conference has been immense.
The National Conference MLCs conveyed condolences and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. They prayed to Almighty to grant strength to the family of Oberoi to bear this irreparable loss.
Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi – a party stalwart, was a two-time City Administrator – once under Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and once during the tenure of Dr. Farooq Abdullah as the Chief Minister of the State and was a former head of the Chamber of Commerce. A sitting MLC, Sardar Dharamveer Singh Oberoi was also the Chief Polling Agent of National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah during his Parliamentary Election in 1999. Known for his unwavering loyalty and commitment to the cause of National Conference, Oberoi contributed immensely to his party and to the welfare and progress of the State.
