Govt announces Rs 5 lakh for shooter Chain Singh

JAMMU: Recognising the unique talent of shooter Chain Singh who made the State proud by winning six gold medals in 2016 South Asian Games besides clinching medal in 2014 Asian Games, the state government on Sunday sanctioned Rs 5 lakh cash award for the young sportsperson.
“Chain Singh, a native of J&K who is serving in the Indian Army, would be presented with this prestigious award by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the president of the State Sports Council,” informed Secretary State Sports Council Waheed-ur-Rehman Para. The cash award for the son of the soil has been sanctioned on the recommendation of Sports Minister, Imran Reza Ansari.
Pertinently, sports activities in the State have got a fillip in the past few months due to the endeavors of the present dispensation which besides upgrading the sports infrastructure is also focusing on felicitating the accomplished sportspersons to encourage them.
In this regard, eight year old Tajamul, gold medal winner in International Kickboxing and Meenal Gupta, gold medal winner in Junior International Chess meet in Sri Lanka were honoured with cash awards by the Chief Minister recently.
