‘Deadwood’ CAPD storekeeper charge-sheeted

JAMMU: The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) on Friday charge-sheeted a CAPD storekeeper for possessing movable/immovable assets disproportionate to his known source of income.
The charge-sheet was produced in case FIR 18/07 under Section 5 (1) (e) read with Section 5(2) of J&K PC Act Svt. 2006 in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Anti-Corruption, Doda against the accused Tariq Hussain Ganai, son of Mohd Ramzan Ganai, resident of Mohalla Khakhai Bhaderwah, the then storekeeper CAPD. Here it is relevant to mention that Tariq was prematurely retired from the government services.
According to the case history, an FIR was registered on the outcome of secret verification into the allegations that the accused has raised a number of immovable assets including two additional storeys over his ancestral house at Mohalla Haveli Nagar Bhaderwah besides a triple storey residential house with two shops adjacent to this house and a residential house No 4/20 at Hyderpura Janipur Jammu.
The Janipur house was purchased by the accused for a consideration of Rs 20 lakhs, including cost of the plot. The accused has also purchased in his own name and in the name of his father a number of vehicles which include a truck, mini bus and an Alto car. The accused remained posted as Storekeeper at various stores of CAPD Department. The value of movable/immovable assets raised by him during his service career has been found disproportionate to his known source of income. A prima facie case for commission of offence punishable under Section 5(1)(e) read with 5(2) J&K PC Act Samvat 2006 has been established against accused official.
During the course of investigation, search warrants were obtained from the Special Judge(Anti-corruption) Jammu and searches of residential premises of the accused were carried out.
During the course of investigation, statements of witnesses were recorded under Section 161 CrPC read with 162 CrPC (as amended) and record pertaining to immovable and movable assets of the accused and his family members was collected from the concerned quarters.
On the strength of evidence, oral and documentary, collected during the course of investigation, it has been established that the accused has raised assets disproportionate to his known sources of income by Rs 36,60,572. As such a case for commission of offences under section 5 (1) (e) read with 5 (2) PC Act Samvat 2006 has been established against the accused namely Tariq Hussain Ganai, the then Storekeeper CAPD (now prematurely retired). Next date of hearing in the instant case has been fixed for May 12, 2016 by the court.
