Game plan
Much politics has been played over the NIT Srinagar row, with BJP surrendering to the anti-national forces. Still a section of NIT students are sitting on protest demanding action against the miscreants. They have been joined by students from Jammu colleges who have extended support to their agitation. In this whole political gamut it looks the fate of non-local students would be the casualty to keep the political agenda alive in Jammu and Kashmir. What started as an off shoot of a cricket match involving India-West Indies and Pakistan kept the institute under the rap of violence and uncertainty for more than two weeks with demands of shifting the institute from Kashmir to closing down of it raised by political and non-political organisations without realising the ramifications and concern for the future of students. During all these chaos the NIT and district administrations trying to stop the ‘migration’ using Lathicharge and teargassing was in political circle termed as ‘light’ action. There is no doubt that BJP locally and centrally wants to continue with PDP coalition at any cost. But why play with students future in this fashion or is it that BJP’s test has backfired in Valley and does not want to own the onus for the same and sacrifice few students under the garb of nationalistic spirit? With all these explanations it looks now BJP is trying to wash its hands of the incident. The unwinding of events shows that the party is planning something big for which it is not cricket but politics in crude form-reeking of vengeance to maintain pressure on the coalition. Disagreements about which acts are intolerable give rise to some of our deepest moral and political conflicts. And, today India is witnessing this change in social phenomena, where each and every one is intolerable to one another. However, there are moral issues that go beyond the political, or which are left unresolved by the State. A dangerous game plan which as of now looks has backfired and party is trying to save its face in front of the public.
