Jammu District Sport Climbing Championship;Clean sweep by Shiksha Niketan in girls category

JAMMU: Shiksha Niketan Higher Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar made a clean sweep in Girls category while hosts Sprawling Buds School climbers bagged the Sub Junior boys and Mini boys titles of the 16th Jammu District Sport Climbing Championship got underway here on Wednesday.
The Boys and Sub Junior Girls titles were, however, shared by climbers from Cooperative School Amphalla, here and Shastri Memorial Higher Secondary School Patoli respectively. Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School Afghan Gali also won two medals including a gold in the Mini Girls category. Earlier, in Girls event, Sonia Sharma of Shiksha Niketan won the gold while silver and bronze medals went to Ishika Gupta and Snehdeep Kour of the same school respectively.
In the Boys category, in which 36 climbers participated, the first position was claimed by Rahul Sharma of Cooperative School, Ambphalla. Tandeep Singh and Naman Sharma, both of Shiksha Niketan clinched the second and third spot respectivley.
In the Sub Junior Boys section the first two positions were bagged by Rudra Partap Singh and Ritesh Sharma of Sprawling Buds School while the third place secured by Gaganjot Singh of Shiksha Niketan.
Similarly, in the Mini Boys category, wherein 56 boys competed for honours, Randeep Singh Parihar of Sprawling Buds School won the title and the second and third spots were bagged by Prakash Kumar of Shiksha Niketan Gandhi Nagar and Vansh Sharma of Shiksha Niketan, Jeevan Nagar respectively. Earlier, the championship, in which about 200 climbers are participating, was declared open by former MLA, Ashwani Sharma, in the presence of Chairman Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, S Bhattacharjee; Secretary Mountaineering Association of J and K, Ram Khajuria and Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Arti Sharma and Rahul Sharma.
Prominent among others present included joint secretary Mountaineering Association of J and K Shawetica Khajuria, Sonam Sidharth (a trained mountaineer), Anil Kumar, Aman Arora (both qualified Belayers), Sakshi Magotra and Satish Bhan (sports organizer).
