JAMMU: JK Surveyors Welfare Association has given a call for complete strike on 25th April 2016, against the new Gazette notifications, issued by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA).
IRDA has barred use of an Independent Surveyor for inspection of any loss, below Rs. 50,000. Loss up to that amount will be inspected by Insurance Company’s Inhouse or employee surveyor. This has come as a rude shock to all technically qualified surveyors. The new policy has been enacted without consulting Surveyor fraternity. Secondly, IRDA has implemented qualification criterion now, according to which only an Automobile Engineer can inspect Motor vehicle claims and an Electrical Engineer can inspect claims of Electrical gadgets, which was not the case, previously. “For doing surveys of Claims, not pertaining to Surveyor’s particular branch, he has to obtain additional qualification. Is it possible for a Civil Engineer who did his B.E. in 1988, to do Automobile Engineering now, at the age of 50”, the surveyors rued and added that the new amendments tend to make them jobless.
Addressing the press conference here, their representatives said that they are observing strike to mount pressure on IRDA and Union Finance Ministry to keep the new IRDA Gazette on hold, keeping in view the interest of the common surveyors. K.B Manchanda (Chairman), Manvir Singh (President), Sudershan Chowdhary (General Secretary), Sanjay Tagotra (Treasurer) and Anil Sambyal (Secretary) were also present in the press conference.
