JAMMU: Expressing serious concern over scarcity of drinking water and unscheduled power cuts in Jammu region, former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla said that though the sweltering climate has smothered a bit with mercury sliding down a bit but the water and power supply still is irregular hitting the routine life people in Jammu region with every passing day. Forget about the far flung areas/outskirt of winter capital even the winter capital, Jammu itself is facing acute shortage of water and power supply which is visible on ground where people get water once in couple of days as earlier, people used to get water twice daily. Similarly the power supply scenario too has gone bad to worse forcing people to pass odd hours every now and then.Describing Congress Party as an instrument of service to the people and having always worked for upliftment and well being of the people keeping aside their caste, colour, region or religion, Bhalla said that Congress Party has always defeated the autocratic behaviour of those who believe in suppressing or oppressing and victimizing the masses or opponents while in power. Bhalla while reacting to Uttarakhand High Court order to struck down President’s rule in the State, said that it underlined, once again, that Article 356 was a “matter of last resort” and that removing a democratically elected government breeds cynicism in the heart of citizens. A state government’s existence could no longer be upturned at the whim of the central government. The Uttarakhand High Court judgment, though, established that constitutional procedure was abandoned in the dismissal of the state government and the imposition of President’s rule. The Centre should heed this rebuke and respect institutional propriety, Bhalla added.Bhalla addressing meeting of party workers in Gandhi Nagar constituency, said that Congress Party has always been desirous to take everyone on board with regard to equal development of all the three regions of the State and people, has determination to address issues confronting people of the State, as this party (Congress) alone had delivered enough and remained committed to make the State of Jammu and Kashmir a progressive and developed one.
