Slathia concerned over poor utility services in Vijaypur

VIJAYPUR: Expressing grave concern over deprivation of people on account of rations, due to implementation of ill-conceived National Food Security Act, former Minister and Senior State President National Conference Surjeet Singh Slathia on Friday sought its roll back and immediate provision of Atta instead of wheat to the rationees.
“No thought has been given to this important issue, which has brought the people on streets”, Slathia said while projecting the issues pertaining to Vijaypur Assembly Constituency to a group of senior officers led by Deputy Commissioner Samba during their visit to Vijaypur.
Slathia said the village and semi urban population in particular is suffering to the harassment unleashed by the Coalition Government, saying this Act has deprived lakhs of people of ration and reduced the allocations for lakhs of others. He said National Conference had opposed the implementation of the NFSA in J and K due to its peculiar conditions.
Slathia also brought to the notice of district administration scarcity of water in Gurah Slathia and its adjoining areas besides erratic power supply, dilapidated condition of roads and poor utility services. He said the development effort across the constituency has almost come to standstill and health centres and government hospitals were running out of medical supplies.
While urging the District Development Commissioner, Sheetal Nanda to make the wheels of administration moving, Slathia said developmental inertia has caused enormous problems to the people. He said the drinking water, power and health is needed to be given priority, especially in view of current summer months. He said wherever intensity of water scarcity is more, the tanker services should be pressed into service so that people don’t face any difficulty.
The former minister hoped that the district administration will evolve a mechanism where under essential services are monitored on regular basis and corrective measures taken to ensure adequate supplies to the people.
Sarpanch Isher Singh, Sarpanch Raman Slathia, Youth President Riyas Malik, Sarpanch gulam Navi, Sodagar Gupta were among the prominent persons who formed part of the delegation that apprised the district administration about the problems confronted to the people in the constituency.
The engineers of various wings and the SDM of the area were also present on the occasion.
