Drug peddler booked under Public Safety Act in Jammu&Kashmir
Srinagar:- Jammu and Kashmir Police today booked a “notorious” drug peddler from Kulgam district of south Kashmir under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) as part of its drive to curb the menace of drub abuse in the Valley.
“Acting tough against drug peddlers, a notorious drug peddler was lodged in Kathua District Jail after booking him under Public Safety Act,” a police spokesman said.
Reyaz Ahmad Wani was booked under the PSA for his alleged involvement in drug peddling in Kulgam district, the spokesman said.
Wani was arrested last year following recovery of large quantity of contraband substance from his possession.
Meanwhile, three drug peddlers were arrested in Awantipora area of Pulwama district following recovery of brown sugar from their possession.
“Acting on a tip off, police team headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora laid a naka at main chowk Awantipora.
During naka checking a vehicle was intercepted and 11.5 grams of brown sugar were recovered,” a police official said.
“Three persons Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, Ashiq Hussain Dar and Mohammad Shafi Sheikh who were on board the vehicle were arrested yesterday,” he said.
Police has registered a case under section of NDPS act against them and started investigation.
