It is strange that while drunken driving is now being checked, a driver’s visual acuity is hardly considered. With vehicle ownership increasing by the day, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways needs to update and introduce amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act. The issuance of a driving licence to someone should not be a matter of routine and the checks prescribed must be followed in letter and in spirit. Road users deserve to have a safe driving experience.
