JAMMU: Kamlesh Devi, wife of Chamel Singh on Sunday sent across a grim reminder to the State and central BJP leaders to fulfill their assurances given to the family three years ago while they shouldered coffin of her husband at the Wagah border in Amritsar.
Brutally murdered inside Pak Jail on January 15, 2013, Chamel Singh’s mortal remains were handed over to the family after 55 days.
State BJP leader Satpal Sharma, currently State BJP Chief, had shouldered his coffin as his body arrived here in Jammu via Wagah border. He also staged protest demonstrations and burnt down Pak flags in Pargwal village to become popular leader ahead of contesting Assembly elections.
Ironically, even after becoming the State BJP Chief and running an alliance government with the PDP since past one year, the BJP leaders were yet to fulfill their commitment made to the widow of Chamel Singh.
Till date no senior leader of the party or sitting minster who claim they are patriotic leaders have spared enough time to pay a visit to the house of Chamel Singh in Pargwal area of Akhnoor. Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, too has failed to come to the rescue of the family neither as no compensation has been announced for the next of kin of the deceased Indian farmer.
After receiving the news reports of death of another Indian prisoner Kirpal Singh, hailing from Gurdaspur, inside Pak jail the next of kin of Chamel Singh have once again decided to raise their voice against the inhuman treatment meted out to the family by the powers that be at the helm of affairs.
On Sunday Kamlesh Devi said, “more than three years have passed when my husband was brutally attacked inside the Kot Lakhpat jail in Pakistan and since then not single penny compensation has been handed over to the next of kin”.
She said, “My children were too young to go out and raise their voice and due to acute poverty she also could not venture out to demand justice from the successive governments “.
She reminded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other State BJP leaders that while in opposition they always demanded adequate compensation from the Congress led UPA government but after assuming power both in the State and at the Centre they have dumped her husband.
She charged BJP leaders for ignoring the plight of the poor family.
Deepak Singh, younger son of Chamel Singh said, “I am regularly writing to the office of Prime Minister and Union Home Minister for intervention at the highest level but so far none of my applications have been acknowledged”.
‘We are moving from pillar to post demanding justice and adequate compensation but the same has been denied to us by the State and government in office in Delhi”, he added.
Dara Singh, eldest of the four siblings said, “We have been running the house hold chores on meager income. I along with my brothers have been earning our livelihood by doing labour work”.
