Swachh Bharat Mission: SLRM project launched to implement waste management in rural areas

UDHAMPUR: Continuing its efforts in implementing solid and liquid waste management in rural areas, the district administration Udhampur launched the project SLRM-Upper Rehmbal in block Udhampur under Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin in a massive Gram Sabha held on Saturday in Panchayat Upper Rehmbal.
The project has been renamed as Solid Liquid Resource Management considering the waste, a resource.
The project is being initially started in W. No 7, New Colony which will be replicated in other wards of the Panchayat also. The District Panchayat Officer (DPO), Sukriti Sharma informed the Gram Sabha members that in coming days, double bins will be distributed to all the households for segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Door to door collection of waste will be done by the members of the group trained for the purpose and registered with the Panchayat. The waste will then be brought to the Waste Collection Centre from where the non-biodegradable waste will be sold to the local scrap dealer who again will be registered with the Panchayat.
The Block Development Officer, Dr. Pardeep Singh, Scientist SPCB, Anuradha, Sarpanch Ashwani Kumar, field functionaries of various departments, Panchs and students attended the Gram Sabha. Participants appreciated the guidelines and advice given by DPO Sukriti Sharma and assured that they will help the officers in maintain cleanliness.
