Jewellers’ stir unjust

0 51

Dear Editor,
The ongoing strike of jewellers is nothing to do with the 1 per cent tax. This strike is not justifiable because, in fact, the jewellers do not want to maintain books of accounts, probably to hide income, and also to facilitate shady deals such as selling impure gold ornaments etc. It is not the jeweller who has to pay the 1 per cent tax, but the buyer. The government has made an appreciable decision to levy this tax from jewellers by targeting the affluent class to bring them under the income tax net and also to prevent accumulation of black money with both jewellers and buyers.
