REASI: Police on Tuesday destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in Katra Teshil.
According to a report, an information was received through reliable source at Police Post Kakryal about the illegal cultivation of crop of poppy plants going on in village Dhirti Tehsil Katra without any permission. On this information a police team led by Inspector Sanjeev Sharma, SHO Police Station Katra along with Sub-Inspector Vikas Jasrotia, In-Charge Police Post Kakryal conducted a raid at Village Dhirti Tehsil Katra. The police team was also accompanied by the officers civil administration namely Hukam Chand, Naib Tehsildar Panthal and Patwari of the said area. During the raid it was established that poppy plants are cultivated in Khasra No.653 by one Badri Nath son of Shiv Ram resident of Dhirti Tehsil Katra. According to revenue record the land is in the name and possession of Badri Nath son of Shiv Ram resident of Dhirti. During the course of action, the team seized 35 Kgs poppy plants and after obtaining some samples and completing codal formalities, the illegal crop of poppy plants was destroyed on spot by order of accompanying Magistrate (Naib Tehsildar). The accused person Badri Nath son of Shiv Ram resident of Dhirti Tehsil Katra was not present in the house. The efforts to arrest the accused person are on and police teams have been deputed in this regard.
A case vide FIR No. 55/2016 under section 8/18 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Katra and investigation of the case is entrusted to SI Vikas Jasrotia, In-Charge Police Post Kakryal.
