Orientation programme on waste management held

UDHAMPUR: District Administration, Udhampur on Saturday organized an orientation programme for the officers of Rural Development Department in collaboration with the Pollution Control Board Jammu.
The programme focused on the issue of solid and liquid waste management in the Panchayats especially in the vicinity of Ramnagar, Chenani and Udhampur towns and those along the National Highway.
DDC Shahid Iqbal Choudhary while speaking on the occasion exhorted upon the BDOs to come up with workable, cost, effective and sustainable models of waste management in rural areas.
He further added that the Pollution Control Board Jammu will provide consultancy to the district in formulating workable SLWM plans. To start with one Panchayat at each of blocks Udhampur and Tikri have been taken up to be developed as models which will be replicated in rest of the blocks.
The Director Rural Sanitation, J and K, S.S Ahmed stressed for having a SLWM consultant in the district and impressed upon the BDOs to get started with the plans immediately. The Director Rural Development Jammu, M.L Raina appreciated the efforts of the officers of the department in taking the initiative in the issue.
Others who were present in the programme include ACD Joginder Pal, PO DRDA Jagdish Mehra, Scientist Pollution Control Board Anuradha, DPO Sukriti Sharma, CEO MC Udhampur, K.K Chalotra, BDO, AEEs and AEs of REW Udhampur.
