Excise Commissioner reviews functioning of Toll Post Lakhanpur 19.24 pc increase in revenue realisation during 2015-16

KATHUA: Excise Commissioner J and K, T. Angchok on Saturday visited Toll Post Lakhanpur and reviewed the functioning and revenue realised during the year 2015-16.
During the meeting, Deputy Excise Commissioner Toll Post Lakhanpur, Rajesh Sharma gave an overview of the achievements of the toll post and informed that an amount of Rs. 495.58 crores has been realized during the year 2015-16, in comparison to Rs. 415.61 crores realised during previous year, thereby showing an increase of Rs.79.97 crore i.e 19.24 per cent.
The toll post officials have detected 463 cases during the current year against 330 cases of toll evasion during previous year and imposed /recovered penalty amounting to Rs 32.88 lakh against Rs. 23.48 lakh. A total of 26,359 number of willow clefts were detected during the year 2015-16 as against 4,550 Numbers in the previous year. About 15,440 Kgs of polythene (contraband) recovered during the year as against 5585 kgs during last year. The Toll Post seized 20,515 kgs of herbs (contraband) against nil during the last year. Similarly, 3,063 bottles of IMFL were seized against 105 bottles during the last year.
Later, the Excise Commissioner inspected the ongoing developmental works at the old Toll Plaza for which Executive Engineer PWD Kathua also accompanied him. He issued instructions for early completion of the works undertaken by the department that include macadamization of Export Yard, Parking Yard at Import Side etc. He also inspected the proposed site for construction of public toilet at New Toll Plaza by Sulabh International Social Service Organisation.
The Excise Commissioner applauded the efforts made by the staff of the Toll Post in generating revenues during the 2015-16 and enjoined then to work with more zeal to realise maximum. He instructed the staff to remain vigilant and perform duties with utmost dedication to achieve desired results. He also enjoined upon the staff to intensify physical checking of vehicles in order to book the evaders and encourage genuine tax payers. He further instructed the staff to intensify the drive against defaulters/ evaders and make all possible efforts for hassle free clearance of vehicles to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and ensure that the commuter/ drivers are not put to any inconvenience.
