Srinagar: Six persons, including a former Deputy Commissioner and four revenue officials, have been booked by state vigilance organisation (SVO) in connection with an eight-year-old case of false mutation of a prime government land worth crores here in Jammu and Kashmir.
An FIR was lodged against former Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Sheikh Aijaz Iqbal; former Tehsildar South Srinagar Sheikh Muneer Akhter; Girdawar Ghulam Nabi Bakal; Patwari Sheikh Showkat Hussain and beneficiaries Ajab Singh and land broker Ghulam Rasool Kana on the basis of preliminary probe, an SVO spokesman said.
Akhter was charged with attesting a false mutation regarding ‘Nazool’ land measuring nearly one acre at Estate Narsing Garh, Magarmal Bagh in favour of Kana, a resident of Banamohala locality of Habba Kadal in interior city, over eight years ago.
“During verification, it came to light that the land in question was state land and the super structures existing thereon were under the occupation of IRP First Battalion C Headquarters and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department.
“Akhter, the then Tehsildar Srinagar (South) in league with concerned Patwari, Girdwar and the then Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, hatched conspiracy with Kana, by way of which attested the land mutation on January 28, 2008 in favour of Singh and conferred undue benefit upon him by granting ownership/occupancy rights of the land,” the spokesman said.
He said Kana later obtained power of attorney from Singh on the basis of which the then Deputy Commissioner with the connivance of other revenue officials handed over the possession of the land along with super structure to him.
“The investigation revealed that the public servants, by way of abusing their official positions in conspiracy with each other, conferred illegally undue benefit upon Singh, presently a tenant at Gorkha Nagar Bahu Jammu, and his attorney holder Kana,” he said.
The spokesman said the case was registered against all the six persons under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Penal Code in police station vigilance organisation, Kashmir.
However, no one was arrested in connection with the case so far, he added.
