JAMMU: Asking that the Dogri language had not received its due in the State, National Panthers Student Union (NPSU) today reiterated its demand of compulsory inclusion of Dogri in school and college curriculum.
Showing concern for Dogri language which was included in the Eighth schedule due to the persistent efforts of the Dogras, Thakur Virender Singh, State President NPSU, said that the revered language had not received its due share so far due to lackadaisical approach of the BJP legislators in the previous BJP-PDP Government.
“The Dogri subject should be made compulsory in the schools and colleges curriculum and should be taught from primary level to graduation level,” he said adding that it would inculcate the interest among the youth to know about rich tradition, culture and history of Dogra heritage.
Narrating the history of Dogra valour, NPSU leader told reporters that the Dogras established the State of Jammu and Kashmir and ensured its integration with the Union of India.
He disclosed that 70 per cent of the schools did not teach Dogri subject and where it had been introduced, there was non-availability of the teachers.
He lamented that advertisement for the posts of teachers and professors was rarely seen in the notification of SSB and JKPSC and as such time was ripe was now to give a fillip to Dogri language for making it popular among the students and the people. Virender also emphasised on the need to establish and separate Duggar Channel. He wondered that if there was Kashir channel for the Kashmiris and DD-Urdu for Urdu speaking people, then why Jammu Pradesh was divested of a separate Duggar channel to cater the need of the Dogras.
He urged the Governor to personally intervene into the matter and facilitate establishment of Duggar TV channel as this was the long cherished dream of the people of Jammu region .
Others present in the press conference were Rishi Badyal, Deepak Sharma and Asha Rani.
