Mountaineering Asso releases calendar of activities

JAMMU: Mountaineering Association of J and K released its calendar of activities for the year 2016-17 in a function held here, on Friday. Chairperson of Indian Administrative Service Officers Wives’ Association (IASOWA), Ruby Sharma unfolded the schedule of year long activities of the association.
The calendar of activities was released in the presence of Presiding Guest, Ashwani Sharma, former MLA and Guest of Honour, Hirdesh Kumar Singh, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Technical Education, IT and Youth Services and Sports as also Special Guests, Assistant Director Doordarshan Kendra Jammu, Sanjeet Khajuria, Joint Secretary, Shiv Kumar Sharma and Divisional Sports Officer, Rajan Sharma of J and K State Sports Council.
The calendar includes 11 trekking expeditions, two specialised sport climbing coaching camps for potential national medal winners, an adventure camp, two sport climbing courses, a sport climbing training camp for specially abled children, a Judges and Route Setters Course and preparatory camps before participation of the State team in the zonal and national climbing competitions.
The association shall also participate in the First Women North Zone Sport Climbing Competition to be organised at IMF, New Delhi besides participating in the Zonal and National Sport Climbing Competitions and conducting the State championship and 13 district climbing competitions.
The highlight of this year’s major activity shall be a Mountaineering Expedition to Matho Kangri Peak in Ladakh besides the other expeditions to be conducted by the affiliated clubs.
Whereas District Sport Climbing Competitions of Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Ganderbal and Pulwama Districts shall be held at climbing wall at TRC, Nowgam (Kashmir) the District Competitions of Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Samba, Kathua and Doda Districts shall be conducted by the association at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore in Bantalab, here.
While releasing the calendar of activities, Ruby Sharma hoped that our climbers would bring more laurels to the State in the forthcoming Fourth Junior/ Sub Junior Sport Climbing Competition to be hosted by the association on 26th and 27th March. Hirdesh Singh in his address promised all possible help from the government for the promotion of adventure activities in the State.
Earlier, General Secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria highlighted the achievements of the association during the year 2015-16 and also disclosed his vision to win the National Championship this year.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Director Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma; Administrator, Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, Vivek Chauhan, Principal Shangrilla Public School, Surestha Khajuria, president Tawi Trekkers J and K, Sumant Singh Jamwal, office bearers and members of Mountaineering Association of J and K, Yogeshwar Kumar (vice president), Shawetica Khajuria (joint secretary), Everester, Ram Singh, Rakesh Goswami and Navneet Gupta.
