Dear Editor,
One of the world’s best cricketers does not deserve to be humiliated for his candid appreciation of Indian cricket fans who are known to be generous in their praise for sportspersons. Admiring winners irrespective of where they hail from the world of sport is like a bridge which transcends region, religion, parochialism and even nationalism and patriotism. His statement should have been accepted in the right spirit and it only makes me recollect an inspirational sports quote: “A trophy carries dust. Memories last forever”.
