R S PURA: Former MLA and senior National Conference leader Bimla Luthra on Thursday sought larger participation of women in decision making, saying ensuing elections to urban local bodies are opening vistas of opportunities for them.
Interacting with party workers at Tutude Village in R S Pura this afternoon, Luthra hoped that the women will participate in the ensuing elections in a big way.
Luthra said National Conference pioneered reservation for women in democratic units at the grass roots level, which proved highly beneficial for executing various schemes aimed at their welfare.
She urged the women to work for social awakening, especially in ending various evils confronted to the society.
The former MLA castigated PDP-BJP for failing the people of Jammu and Kashmir on all fronts and said its ten month rule will continue to remain a nightmarish era of the State.
She said while development came to grinding halt, the previous government worked against the interests of youth and women. In this context, Luthra referred to the anti-youth job policy, which she said, retarded the avenues of employment for deserving educated unemployed.
Responding to the issues listed by women workers, Luthra said these will be taken up at appropriate level for early redressal.
