JAMMU: Provincial Vice-President, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), Jammu Province, Khajur Singh demanded an enquiry by a retired Justice of the High Court into misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakh for the construction of multipurpose community hall at Batroo Ramban in the memory of Ex-Dy. Chief Minister late D.D Thakar.
Khajur Singh eulogised the service of D.D Thakar for the public of Jammu and Kashmir with dedication and honesty for a long period and corruption or misappropriation during the construction of a memorial of such a veteran leader is highly condemnable and legally invalidated. He requested the Governor to appoint a judicial commission for probe.
Khajur Singh also briefed the media persons that one Javeed Iqbal Wani, who was appointed an orderly as per his service book on 5th May 1980, was appointed work supervisor after three months on 6th August, 1980 and afterwards as AEE in REW Wing of Rural Development Department, who with the connivance of other officials swindled the J and K Treasury of lakhs of rupees.
The committee appointed to conduct the enquiry for utilising the substandard material in the MPC Hall has not submitted its report hitherto, he said and pointed out that as per the letter of Executive Engineer REW Ramban dated 25th February, 2016 written to Director Rural Development Jammu there are fissures in the outer surface of the pillar due to use of substandard material and the building can collapse resulting into the causalities.
It is a matter of much anxiety that the Executive Engineer REW Ramban who is an honest and dedicated officer was manhandled and a murderous assault was made upon him by 25 persons with a common attention and a conspiracy hatched by the main accused Javeed Ahmad Wani.
Terming the assault as dastardly act which is highly condemndable, Singh appealed to the Governor to appoint a Retd. Justice to conduct enquiry to bring to light the corruption and establish the rule of law and create a deterrent for punitive action as the corruption or the misappropriation of lakhs of rupees is a culpable crime.
