Pahari lawyers seek Pahari Section in DD, AIR

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Pahari Speaking Lawyers Forum (JKPSLF) demands for establishment of Pahari section at Doordarshan Jammu/Srinagar and All India Radio Jammu and Srinagar. Forum appealed to the Governor N.N Vohra to take up this issue with ministry of Information and Broadcast GoI.
As per statement issued by Forum spokesperson, a meeting of Pahari lawyers under the banner (JKPSLF) held in the premises of J and K High Court Janipur Jammu.
In the meeting speakers expressed their concern not giving due representation to Pahari community at Radio and Doordarshan.
They said that majority of Pahari speaking community living in Rajouri and Poonch Districts of Jammu province besides large number of Pahari people living in Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Reasi Districts also, but from All India Radio Jammu no Pahari Programme is broadcast.
Only from All India Radio Srinagar 30-minute programme is being broadcast, they added.
They further said that it is matter of great concern that during Pahari programme broadcasting from Doordashan Jammu, Punjabi, Gojjari and Punjabi Lok songs and dances were played. Number of time this matter also brought in the notice of Director but no action being taken. Forum demanded for broadcasting 10-minute Pahari News bulletin from Jammu as well as from Srinagar both on Doordarshan and Radio. Forum sought personal interference of Governor to give due representation to the Pahari community at Doordarshan and Radio. In the meeting, Forum President Zahid Sarfraz Malik, Spokesperson Altaf Hussain Janjua. Senior Vice President Mehrban Singh, K.K Pathan, Abrar Khan, Nadeem Hamdani, Gurdev Thakur, Israr Qazi, Shamas Ud Din Shaaz, Deepak Sharma and Nitin Sharma were present.
