Police Martyrs T20 Cricket Tournament Police-XI wins inaugural match

POONCH: Police-XI won the inaugural match of Police Martyrs T20 Cricket Tournament being organised by District Police Poonch under Civic Action Programmes at Degree College Ground, here on Tuesday.
In the opening match, Police-XI outplayed Brigade-XI by 14 runs.
Brigade-XI won the toss and elected to field first. Police-XI set a target of 143 runs in 20 overs, while chasing the target Brigade-XI managed to score 129 runs in 20 overs thus lost the match by 14 runs.
Earlier the tournament was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Mohd Harun, Deputy Commissioner Poonch who lauded the role of J and K Police in fighting militancy and dealing with crime and law and order across the State.
In all 64 cricket teams involving more than 770 players drawn from different parts of Rajouri-Poonch Districts are participating in the tournament which will be played on knock-out basis.
SSP Poonch, Jatinder Singh Johar, while speaking at the opening ceremony, said that in addition to their bounden duties, JKP is also fulfilling its social responsibilities for overall development of the society.
He also said that endeavour of JKP is to provide the platform to the youth to display their talent so as to channelise their energy.
He exhorted upon the
players to exhibit the spirit of true sportsmanship and
discipline besides maintaining the best tradition of communal harmony and brotherhood for overall development of the nation.
He also eulogised the role of District Police Poonch for organising different sports and cultural events besides tackling crime, law and order effectively and good liaison with the general populace of the district.
Commander 93 Inf. Brigade, N.S Brar wished best of luck to the participating teams.
Prominent among others who attended opening ceremony include Additional SP Poonch Amit Gupta, DySP Hqrs. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, DySP DAR Mohd Rafi Giri, Taj Mir (Sarpanch-Saral), Ishaq (Sarpanch-Qasba), Mohd Saleem (Panch-Banvat), Prem Parkash Luthra, Mohd Tariq, Advocate Mohd Zaman, sports lovers and staff/officers of District Sports and Youth Services Poonch.
