Governor for judicious use of funds under CSR
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Governor N.N Vohra has called for judicious use of funds available under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for development of the most deserving and needy people in far flung backward areas of the State.
He was inaugurating the ‘NGO Conclave on Leveraging CSR’ organised by Bunyaad Foundation at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, on Thursday.
The Governor complimented the Bunyaad Foundation and observed that as per the Companies Act, 2013, every company with a turnover of Rs. 5 crore or more is mandated to spend 2% of its profits on social issues under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Governor stressed the need for Government to establish close linkages with the Companies which have CSR obligation and ensure prioritised utilisation of the CSR funds. Such an approach would promote focused development in identified sectors and geographical areas, to supplement the development programmes which are being implemented by the State Government.
Zulfkar Ahmad, Managing Trustee, highlighted that the Bunyaad Foundation, which was started three years ago, has so far trained about 2000 persons, of whom about 65% are already employed in various organizations. He also informed that the Bunyaad Foundation is engaged in creating awareness amongst all stakeholders throughout the country.
Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu and Dr. Renu Nanda, HoD Department of Education, University of Jammu also shared their experiences on the responsibilities of the NGOs towards the society as provided under the Companies Act, 2013.
