Mehbooba for rehabilitation, social integration of J&K violence victims

JAMMU: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said the government has moral responsibility of reaching out to every single victim of violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
She was speaking at the 7th Governing Council meeting of J&K Rehabilitation Council here in which Minister for Social Welfare Sajad Ghani Lone was also present.
She asked officers to factor in the needs and requirements of these victims while framing policies and schemes for the general public. She called for updating the data base of people affected over three decades old violence in the State so that some concrete steps for their complete integration into the social set up are facilitated.
It was decided in the meeting that the number of widows, orphans and parents of killed persons in the State would be fine tuned so that an actual and updated number of such victims is available for their rehabilitation. It was also decided that the Action plan for the Council would henceforth be finalised in March every year so that the assistances could be disbursed from April onwards.
The meeting also decided to enhance one-time marriage assistance to young widows and grown-up daughters to Rs. 40, 000 per case. The meeting also asked the Council to pursue the various funding patterns available in the Central Government for the benefit of victims of violence in the State.
Chief Secretary, B. R Sharma, Financial Commissioner, Planning & Development B. B Vyas, Principal Secretary, Home R. K Goyal, Commissioner-Secretary, Finance Navin Chaudhary, Director, National Foundation for Communal Harmony; Executive Director, J&K Rehabilitation Council, Tazayun Mukhtar and other officers were present in the meeting.
