JAMMU: The Kaam Chhoro Hartal launched by the casual and need based workers of the Power Development Department (PDD) entered the 128th consecutive day here on Tuesday.
The strike under the banner of All Jammu Province Casual/ Need Based Workers Union of PDD was launched outside the Office of Chief Engineer (M&RE) at Bhagwati Nagar Jammu.
Akhil Sharma, State President is leading the protest along with Provincial President Shesh Sharma, Vice President Sham Sharma, General Secretary Sanjeev and Secretary Sawar Khan.
These workers are demanding regularisation of workers, who have completed over seven years service. They pointed out that exactly 3,232 casual/ need based workers are serving in different divisions of PDD. A good number of them have completed seven years of service and they all should be regularised without any delay. They are facing exploitation as on meager wages they are working more hard and for long hours than the regular staff.
The Union President said that the workers have resolved to take out a large rally from Press Club tomorrow at 11:00 AM towards to Secretariat in support of their demands.
They demanded that their list will be publish in the departmental website and the Aadhaar Based Biometric form be sent to NIC Department before 31st December 2016.
They appealed to the PDD to furnish the record to the NIC Department as early as possible and State Govt to redress casual/need based workers’ demands in the coming budget session.
Others present in the Dharna included Vishal, Ashish Verma, Ashwani Kumar, Naresh Sharma, Shamsher Singh and Simranjeet Singh.
