JAMMU: Taking a dig at the BJP-PDP coalition government in the state for strangulating the voice of the People’s representatives, MLA Udhampur Pawan Gupta on Monday said the government has made a mockery of democracy by curtailing the ensuing Budget Session to mere 23 days.
He demanded that the Budget Session should be enhanced to 50 days with half day’s business so that Members of the Assembly get sufficient time for preparations and debating the matters of public interest on the floor of the House.
He alleged that the government has curtailed the Session to save its face from getting exposed for its non-performance and surfaced instances of gross misconduct and corruption, especially after demonetisation. The government, which is involved in gross irregularities by crossing all limits of corruption and scandals, doesn’t want the Assembly be conducted with constructive debate on Budget grants and carrying Legislative Business of the State with due deliberations and considerations, he added.
He further informed that during the last session, a resolution moved by MLA Taragami had demanded at least 100 days sittings in a year but it is unfortunate that instead of compensatory process of more than 50 days sittings in the present Budget Session, it has been reduced to mere 23 days sittings, he reiterated.
