Jammu to come up as prime golfing destination: Kavinder

JAMMU: Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta on Sunday said that resources are being mobilised for promotion and development of Golf in Jammu region.
The Speaker said this during the prize distribution ceremony for the Fifth JK Golf Association Tournament organised in collaboration with Department of Tourism at Jammu Tawi Golf Course, Sidhra. While addressing the gathering of golfers, prominent citizens, members of JKGA, the Speaker said that development of golf in the state will have two fold impact, as not only a choice of sport but also with regards to tourism promotion. He said large-scale resource mobilization for the sport is being undertaken with efforts being made to further upgrade the Sidhra Golf Course for increased participation in the sport and making it ready to host a variety of national and international tournaments.
He further said that services of trained experienced golfers need to be enlisted and special camps organized for training new and upcoming golfers so that they can compete with the players at national and international level. Kavinder later distributed prizes among the participants. The tournament saw participation from a large number of golfers belonging to both the regions of the state.The trophy for ladies winner gross was bagged by Lalita Langeh with Renu Parmar as runner up.
In ladies putting Kamlesh and Prathiba Dutta bagged the prize. The best golfers’ trophy was won by Sanjeev Dogra, Bhawani Singh and Raghav Wahi while Ram Avtar and Danish Khan won the best golfer Jammu and best golfer Kashmir title respectively.
For category 65 and above Mushtaq Burza, S.S Wazir were the winner and runner up respectively, for category 50 to 60, winner was Altaf Naik while S.K Katoch came up as runner up, in category 30 to 50, Naik Shambhu and Pranav Kohli were the winner and runner up respectively and category 30 and under was bagged by Vedant Handa while Karamjeet Singh came up as runner up.
Among other winners, hole in one was bagged by Sunil Gupta, maximum birdies by Dinesh Chopra, maximum pars by R.S Jaswal, longest drive by Col. J. S Randhawa, closest to pin by Dhruv Malhotra
The Speaker also appreciated the efforts of the JKGA management and members for their concerted efforts for golf development in the state.
