LEH: As the case of poaching of the blue sheep is becoming sensitive one with General Council LAHDC also taking serious note of it, Deputy Commissioner Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G and Sr Superintendent of Police Leh, Udhaya Bhaskar Billa on Thursday clarified that the issue was being investigated thoroughly without any compromise on any aspect of it.
“Whosoever is found guilty will not be spared,” Ramaswamy assured, while informing that investigation is under full progress.
The case of poaching of a blue sheep came to fore in the Gya-Meru area on 11th December and over the past 10 days it has taken different twists and turns. Organisations like Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and Conservation of Wildlife and Birds Clubs Leh demanded that culprits be brought to book soonest possible. LBA had suspected hands of influential persons since no progress was made for several days in spite of the fact that the incident took place in broad daylight.
Reiterating the stand of the district administration, Deputy Commissioner Leh said the authorities will not succumb to any pressure from anybody or influential individual to compromise on the case.
While confirming the suicide case of a 52 year old person in the area, who is believed by many to be one of the witnesses, SSP Leh said it would be incorrect say that he was a witness as they didn’t have any evidence. “We have initiated inquest proceedings of the suspicious death,” he added. DC and SSP confirmed that the death of the blue sheep was due to bullet wound but bullet was not recovered.
Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Dy. S.P DAR Leh, Tashi Phuntsog to ensure speedy and proper investigation of the case FIR No: 93/2016 registered with Police Station Leh under Section 8/51 Wildlife Protection Act.
