JAMMU: Semifinals position has been cleared in girls’ badminton with the entry of Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur and Kathua Districts in the last four stages in the inter-district state level under-19 (boys and girls) competitions, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at BSF Stadium, here on Monday.
Now, in the semifinals, to be played on Tuesday, Jammu District shall take on Kathua and Udhampur shall face Srinagar.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played today, Kathua beat Samba 2-0. The Results: Shikha bt Priya Rani 21-02, 21-02; Shikha and Durva beat Priya and Vishali 21-03, 21-02.
In another quarterfinal, Jammu outplayed Kargil 2-0. The Results: Bhavana defeated Sabah 21-13, 21-08; Tahira and Anjum defeated Kaneez and Fatima 21-15, 21-11.
Similarly, Udhampur trounced district Budgam 2-0: The Results: Anchal defeated Sumaya 21-06, 21-23, 21-07; Anchal and Rahat beat Uzma and Mantasha 21-11, 21-14.
Meanwhile, in boys section, first and second round of the competition took place on the opening day today wherein Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil, Pulwama emerged winner.
The Detailed Results: Srinagar beat Kathua 2-1: Raghu bt Muizz 21-13, 21-12; Ishan and Sharib blanked Danish and Raghu 19-21, 21-18, 21-17. Reverse singles: Ishan downed Dheeraj 21-08, 21-13. Jammu beat Pulwama 2-0: Bhubneshwar defeated Jamshed 21-05, 21-07; Ram Parkash beat Azad and Jamshed 21-07, 21-06. Udhampur beat Samba 2-0: Dhananjay outplayed Vinayak 21-06, 21-03; Dhananjay and Vikram trounced Kanav and Tajasveer 21-06, 21-03. Kargil beat Budgam 2-0: Mohd Alyas defeated Saqib 21-10, 21-03; Salman and Mohd Alyas downed Tariq and Sajad Ali 21-12, 21-04.
CHESS: Meanwhile, in chess, the competition was held in both boys and girls sections at the Office of Deputy Director, Gandhi Nagar.
The Results: BOYS: Shivinder of Jammu beat Amit Sharma of Kathua; Aditya Bharat of Jammu defeated Junaid Akbar of Budgam; Kanav Gupta of Jammu trounced Robin Vaid of Udhampur; Variender Singh of Jammu outplayed Mehraj Ahmad of Kulgam; Bilal Ahmed of Pulwama downed Mudasir Ashraf of Budgam; Umer Nazir of Kulgam blanked Lone Nazri Moin of Baramulla.
GIRLS: Pranjali of Kathua beat Muskan of Udhampur; Akriti Kotwal of Jammu defeated Sonali Sharma; Navneet of Kathua outplayed Nayandeep Kour of Jammu; Parul of Jammu trounced Ruhi Rajput of Kathua.
