YAIKS terms PM’s Rehabilitation Package as eyewash
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS), an organisation working for Kashmiri Pandits, on Wednesday accused the Jammu and Kashmir government of failing to provide jobs to youths of the community under the Prime Minister’s rehabilitation package.
Taking to reporters here on Wednesday, YAIKS Chief R.K Bhat alleged that the government was “discouraging” Kashmiri Pandit youths who were ready to serve in the Valley.
Languishing as refugees in their own country for last 26 years now, he said the “honourable and dignified” return and rehabilitation of internally displaced Kashmiri Pandits to their homes and hearths has become a catchphrase for every politician and successive government representatives to use.
“Several commitments were made to the Kashmiri migrants by the successive Central and State Governments over the years but on ground they have failed to fulfill their commitments,” he said and added, “The much talked about PM’s Return, Relief and Rehabilitation Package including 6,000 jobs announced by former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh way back in April 2008 has turned out to be a cruel joke with the community.”
He accused the government for its total failure in framing a concrete policy of rehabilitation and said that the successive governments have failed to create a congenial atmosphere for return in the Valley.
Instead of taking concrete steps for successful rehabilitation, he said, politics is being played with our community on different fronts.
We demand PM’s return and rehabilitation package of Kashmiri Pandits to be re-structured, redesigned and revised. Reverting back to our travesty, he said YAIKS will restart its direct action programmes by doing protests, seminars and workshops and will also invite all political setups of the nation for open discussion and debates.
“We will expose Govt’s intensions in the name of so called rehabilitation package which is a total failure and mere eyewash.” He said. Vice President B.K Bhat, General Secretary Manoj Handoo, Secretaries Sanjay Ganjoo and Ajay Safaya were also present in the press conference.
