Zero tolerance against collateral damage; credit for peace goes to people

JAMMU: Renewing the resolve of Jammu Kashmir Police to defeat the Pak-sponsored proxy war in the State, Special Director General Coordination S. P Vaid on Monday said that while tackling the menace, all precautions are being taken against any collateral damage.
“Security forces and the police are grappling with a difficult situation for the past over two and half decades in the wake of terror unleashed from across the border but with active cooperation of the people a significant headway has been made in neutrilising elements inimical to peace”, Vaid said while talking to STATE TIMES.
When asked how the forces are placed in meeting the situation, especially in the backdrop of recent unrest provoked by Pakistan and its lackeys, the Special DGP Coordination reiterated, “We are determined in our resolve to restore peace and normalcy across the State.” He, however, said that challenges are numerous which are being met with fortitude by the forces and police, who are working in tandem and complete synergy.
Elaborating on normality dawning in the Valley after four crucial months of Pak sponsored unrest, Vaid complimented the people, saying credit goes to them as they extended cooperation in all “our endeavours in bringing about discernible turnaround in the situation”.
The Special DGP, who camped in the summer capital all these months, appreciated the para-military forces for maintaining close rapport with the police in ensuring law and order despite numerous odds.
To a question on reaching out to the youth of the Valley, Vaid said a special drive had been launched to recruit youth as SPOs, which received immense response from the youngsters.
On fighting scourge of terror, the Special DGP said that 150 terrorists have been killed so far this calendar year against 105 in 2015. He said close vigil is being maintained on the borders and in the hinterland to check the activities of terrorists and attempts of pumping Hawala funds for sustaining terrorism and other anti-national activities.
When asked what measures were being taken to combat Pak abetment to unrest and orchestrated propaganda, Vaid said the security forces and the police are well poised to meet any challenge.
Giving details about violence, the Special DGP said that 2,380 incidents of violence were reported since July this year. These include 820 in July, 747 in August, 575 in September, 175 in October, 73 in November and 25 in December so far. He said 2,602 FIRs have been lodged and 5,084 arrested made. Of these, 2,682 persons have been detained under preventive sections of law while 6,681 are wanted in different cases of violence.
Vaid said that the police and the security forces exercised maximum restrain while dealing the extra-ordinary situation across the Valley, as a result of which huge number of personnel came under attack. He said 4,113 security personnel have been injured which include 3,537 police personnel and 556 CRPF jawans. Two police personnel were martyred in the mob violence, he added. About infrastructural damage, the Special DGP said 131 structures were damaged-78 in the incidents of arson and 53 damaged due to mob violence. These include police stations and schools, he said.
