SRINAGAR:Terrorists on Thursday robbed a bank in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, decamping with Rs 11 lakh, police said.
The terrorists, whose number was not known, barged into the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Rantipora in Pulwama district, a police official said.
He said they took away Rs 11 lakh from the branch before fleeing.
Soon after the incident, police arrived on the spot but local residents started pelting stones at them, he said.

Why J&K Bank only?
Strange but true: Jammu and Kashmir Bank is making headlines for wrong reasons post demonetisation. Reason; bank robberies by terrorists!
But question arises, why the J&K Bank only?
The Kashmir Valley has strong presence of other nationalised banks, not only in the capital city but also in urban and rural areas. Despite this, none of the banks has fallen prey to cash-starving terrorists who have chosen the premier bank of the State, which is incidentally banker to the State Government. J&K Bank is perhaps the only financial institution having adequate infrastructure and manpower. On security front also, its branches are well guarded. Despite that the terrorists are finding it easy to lay their hands on J&K Bank with no resistance, either from the staff or the security guards.
Intriguingly, security guards have not reacted even once during repeated  bank robberies in recent days. The bank management too has not sought reports as to why guards posted in the branchs did not react or retaliate. Is it because of connivance at some levels or more than that?
It is time for the management to find out answers for the lapses, lest the huge clientele will lose faith on the Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
