JAMMU: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding dilapidated condition of roads in J&K, a Division Bench (DB) of J&K State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan admitted the PIL for hearing and issued post-admission notice to Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary PWD, Divisional Commissioners of Jammu/ Kashmir, Commissioners of JMC/ SMC and Commissioner Secretary PHE to file response within six weeks.
The DB gave these directions after hearing Parveen Kapahi appearing for the PIL and Deputy Advocate General Farz Iqbal appearing for the State.
The PIL was filed by Advocate Jasvinder Singh, who submitted that roads in various districts of J&K including rural areas are mostly in dilapidated condition.
“There are potholes and ditches which are not properly leveled and surfaced. Moreover, no foot ways and foot paths exist and wherever they exist they are in poor condition and encroached upon,” the petition said.
