Vajpayee line
Why is that every time BJP or PDP has to assure on continuing the line of alliance? And every time Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking Vajpayee line when dealing with Pakistan? Is there something wrong with the Common Minimum Programme-the roadmap of Coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir. But given the fragile alliance, the skills and the will to continue would always be put to test especially when it comes to India-Pakistan relations. It looks not as two-party but a three party or the tripartite relations which is to be amended. What Vajpayee advocated as far as Pakistan is concerned is what Modi is following. One does not see any difference in it. If Vajpayee took bus ride to Lahore immediately before the Kargil War in 1999, Modi made a courtesy call on Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for over a cup of tea and we had Pathankot. The Insaniyat which we talk while dealing with the complicated issue of Kashmir has always remained with India. The three principles which Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s doctrine in Jammu and Kashmir, included “Insaniyat, Jhamooriyat and Kashmiriyat” (humanity, democracy and Kashmiriness) to script the success story of the State. Modi during his first visit to the State after the PDP-BJP coalition came into power in April last was all praise for former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who died on 7th January last, for his dream of inclusive development of J and K and bridging the gap between Jammu and Srinagar. At that time Mehabooba as Chief Minister had said that she has great hope and expectations from PDP’s alliance with the BJP. “My father said on many occasions that when he shook hands with Narendra Modi, he was, in fact, joining hands with a billion people of India who had reposed their faith in his leadership,” she said, promising to pick up the threads from where her father had left them. Now the point is what is holding her back that always she had to take refuge under Vajpayee doctrine every time?
