BARAMULLA: With an objective of grooming young athletes in track events, National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS) on Sunday organised GAIL Indian Speedstar athletic event here.
The event witnessed the participation of more than 750 athletes hailing from various districts of North Kashmir including Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora.
Pertinent to mention that GAIL Indian Speedstar is a project of NYCS, which aims at spotting, screening, selecting and grooming young athletes in the age group of 11-17 years in 100m, 200m and 400m track events across the country. A total of 70 athletes among them will take part in similar events at the regional level. The best athletes of the country in racing events will be part of this focused training programme to make them capable of representing India at the 2020 summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
