Mumbai:- Congress has demanded removal of Mahadev Jankar from the cabinet, after the state election commission cancelled the election process in a particular ward of Desaiganj municipal council and lodged a complaint against the minister for allegedly trying to influence polls.

“There is sufficient proof that he (Jankar) misused his powers. He should not be morally sitting on the chair. The chief minister should sack him from the cabinet,” general secretary of the state Congress and party spokesperson Sachin Sawant said in a statement issued this evening.

Jankar, founder of Rashtriya Samaj Paksh is the member of upper house and was inducted as state Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development minister some months back.

A video had recently gone viral where Jankar was seen having a telephonic conversation with an officer-in-charge for Desaiganj municipal council election and asking him to cancel a particular candidate’s form, who was contesting on Congress ticket.

A delegation of Congress had then approached the state election commissioner and demanded action against Jankar.

The SEC on Saturday cancelled the election procedure in ward no 9 in Desaiganj municipal council and also lodged a complaint against Jankar under violation of election code of conduct.
