JAMMU: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) lauded the role of Central Government and Coalition Government of State for releasing Rs 2,000 crore as part payment of compensation to the Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 from PoK.
President JKSAC Gurdev Singh thanked the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who took prompt action in getting this amount released from Centre within less than a month’s time of her assurance to the deputation that met her on 19th ultimo.
He appealed to the CM that the road map for the payment of compensation to the displaced families as already sought in the memorandum submitted to her on 19th November, 2016, may please be prepared and circulated to the authorities at district level. He suggested that Tehsildars of all the respective districts of Jammu Region with designated powers to accept and verify the records for the identification of DPs be asked to submit the documents to Deputy Commissioner (DC) for making payment under Direct Benefit Transfer. He said that it will make the system of disbursal much easier and transparent otherwise the flow of thousands of DP families to submit their records in PRO Office Jammu, besides causing harassment to DPs will encourage touts / agents to cheat them and will open flood gates of corruption.
Gurdev Singh, Netar Parkash and other office bearers of JKSAC welcomed the clarification that Rs 2,000 crore is part of relief compensation, they requested that its balance amount may also be notified for its payment in one go instead of instalments, taking advantage of magnanimity shown by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had assured full payment. They also demanded the inclusion of 5,300 bonafide families settled outside the State.
Gurdev Singh and Netar Parkash expressed their dismay for overlooking the most significant component of the package of reservation for the wards of DPs in employment and education as already recommended by the State Government and the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). They said that their wards deserve employment package at par with the wards of Kashmiri Migrants.
President Jammu District Dwarka Nath, Balbir Singh ‘Ajji’, Secretary, Nirmal Singh Kranti Vice President, Master Yograj, Mukesh Sharma, Rajesh Khajuria, Harbans Singh, Makhan Singh, Harjeet Singh, Madan Lal, Makhan Lal, Santokh Singh and Mohinder Singh Khalsa were also present.
