Winning start by J&K in School Games U-19 Football

JAMMU: Hosts Jammu and Kashmir made a wining start in the 62nd National School Games under-19 boys Football, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) at different venues, here on Tuesday.
J and K defeated CBSE XI 3-1 to consolidate their position in group-E of the league round. Nadeem Ashraf opened the account for J and K netting the ball in the 14th minute while Sahil Kumar added two more goals striking in the 36th and 57th minute to make it a big win. The only goal from CBSE came through Anurag in the 59th minute.
Other winning teams of day-one of the competition were defending champion, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Rajasthan. However, two of the eight scheduled matches ended in draw. While West Bengal held DAV to goalless draw, the score between Tamil Nadu and Lakshdeep remained 1-1. The Detailed Results: Pool-A: Punjab beat Himachal Pradesh 3-0 (Rohit Jharmat 20th, 40th; Rajat Kumar 48th). Pool-D: Maharashtra defeated IPSC 3-2 (Denzin Collaco, Christopher Farndes and Jagdish Gadewad. Aviral Jain, Himanshu Mincho). Pool-E: J and K blanked CBSE 3-1 (Nadeem Ashraf 14th, Sahil Kumar 36th and 57th. Anurag 59th); Rajasthan trounced Puduchery 4-1 (Shivam Bakar 18th, Ishan Rozario 29th, 39th, 49th. Scanthmil 38th). Pool-E : Tamil Nadu drew against Lakshdeep 1-1 (R Arvandan 42nd. Afreed Ali 55th); West Bengal drew against DAV 0-0. Pool-H: Jharkhand defeated NVS 2-1: Arjun Murmua. KSH Naresh Singh).

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh who said the government has undertaken a comprehensive campaign to give a fillip to the sports culture in the State by augmenting the existing infra and organizing tournaments of national and international levels. Minister of State for Youth Services and Sports, Sunil Sharma, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Hilal Parray, Director Youth Services and Sports Sheikh Fazyaz Ahmad and other senior officers, sports persons were present on the occasion.
29 teams from different states of the country are participating in five-day tournament and the finals are slated to be held on 10th December. He said an amount of Rs 40 crore has been earmarked for undertaking renovation and upgradation of the Moulana Azad Stadium at Jammu and the work in this regard would be undertaking soon so that the stadium comes up as per international standards. A souvenir was also released on the occasion.
