30 kg polythene bags seized

UDHAMPUR: In a major drive against the use of polythene carry bags in Patnitop area under the jurisdiction of Patnitop Development Authority, a joint team of the officials of Forest Protection Force, Pollution Control Board and Forest ( Territorial) conducted raids and seized approximately 30 Kg. of poly bags from the shopkeepers at Kud and Patnitop.
The joint team sensitized the hoteliers and the shopkeepers against the use of this non-biodegradable material which is hazardous to the environment.
The hoteliers were also advised not to dispose off the degradable/ rton- biodegradable solid wastes in the open public view and the forest areas as well. Some of the shopkeepers were also Challaned and a recovery of rupees fourteen hundred realized from them for contravening the provisions of J&K Non-Biodegradable Material ( Management, Handling and Disposal) Act, 2007.
The joint team consisted of Assistant Directors Jogeet Bakshi, Sudesh Kumar, Mohd Raliq (R.O), Narayana and other forest officials. The entire operation was supervised by Deputy Director, Forest Protection Force, Udhampur, Rakesh Saraf and the Divisional officer of PCB, Anil Sharma.
