BMS demands revision in minimum wages

JAMMU: A deputation of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh J and K led by its General Secretary, Ashok Choudhary met Labour Minister, Ajay Nanda and apprised him about the burning problems of private sector workers.
The deputation demanded revision in minimum wages under Minimum Wages Act 1948, implementation of VDA (Variable Dearness Allowances), seeks Contract Labour Advisory Board meeting which has not been called for the last more than eight years.
“It was specifically brought in to the notice of the minister that building construction workers are facing too much hardship as the Labour Department is not accepting the education assistances cases after 30 November 2016 and time was given hardly for one month and in this short period workers could not complete their formalities due to turmoil in the border areas and requested for extending the time limit for further one month,” Choudhary said.
The minister gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured for considering their all genuine demands.
The delegation comprised of Harbans Choudhary, Chana Singh Toor, Shaym Sunder Sharma, Om Parkash and Dev Parkash.
