JAMMU: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Chapter of Jammu on Wednesday put on display rare and original exhibits of the cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir for the benefit of the students of KC Public School.
Manuscripts written in Sanskrit, Panjabi and other ancient languages, paintings of Basohli School of miniature art and coins of ages spanning centuries and millennia were showcased artfully in the activity hall of the school.
S.M Sahni, Convenor of Jammu Chapter, Prof. Anita Billawaria, Director, Centre of History and Culture for Jammu and Ladakh and four life members of INTACH, namely Prof. Sudhir Singh, Kuldeep Wahi, Dr. Suresh Abrol and Satwant Singh Rissam were present on the occasion.
Prof. Billawaria, Prof. Sudhir Singh, Sahni, Dr. Abrol and Wahi underscored the need for conserving and protecting human heritage in all its forms under tangible and intangible categories such as nature and its resources, historical monuments, languages, various art and craft forms, music, dance, drama and so on.
Prof. Billawaria gave the students a profound insight into the heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and Prof. Sudhir Singh advised them to be proud of their heritage including their own mother tongue Dogri which they should speak instead of ignoring it in preference for English.
The exhibition gave the students valuable learning experience. After the conclusion of exhibition, all members of INTACH visited the Heritage Centre of the school and the school Art Arcade. They congratulated the principal and staff for inculcating in their students a deep interest in human heritage and making it a part of the school educational ethos.
