LEH: Bi-annual general body meeting of Kharzong Odsal Tsogspa (KOT) was held at Khardong to discuss various upcoming activities of the grassroots level society that has been carrying out various educational, cultural and environmental protection activities for more than one decade for Khardong and adjoining villages in Nubra which are relatively disadvantaged ones as compared to other villages.
The meeting also carried out reshuffling of the executive committee as it is done on a bi-annual basis. Members urged in the meeting that the existing working committee be continued for another term as there was really no need to bring about any change. However, some changes were made while continuing with the existing working committee. Tsering Norphel, who has served as honorary president for a term was extended by another term along with other honorary members. Dr. Soam Wangchuk, who was earlier the General Secretary, was elevated as Advisor of the organisation and Sonam Tsering Onpo as Vice President while Tsewang Rigzin was made the General Secretary. KOT decided that winter tuition for students from far-flung villages and hamlets like Rasermo, Rong, Pharka, Khalsar and Khardong will be organised during the vacation. The meeting was informed that Councillor Diskit Tsering Angchuk had already committed to help KOT with some funds out of Constituency Development Funds. Organisers decided to mobilise funds privately also through generous donations to make the winter tuition a success.
KOT was also instrumental in launching cleanliness drive on the Khardongla road and has also organised traditional archery tournaments in different villages.
