SAIL’s contractual workers seek implementation of Minimum Wages Act

JAMMU: The contractual workers employed in Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Jammu, who are on indefinite strike since 4th of November 2016, demanded implementation of minimum wages, EPF, ESCI and other statutory labour laws on Tuesday held a protest against the SAIL management for its adamant attitude.
The large number of workers under the banner of Railway Loading and Unloading Workers Union-Jammu affiliated with CITU assembled in front of Steel Yard Narwal-Jammu and shouted slogans for their demands.
Om Parkash, General Secretary State CITU said that at least 46 workers are employed on contractual basis at steel Yard who have been working for more than 30 years have been grossly exploited by the management as the benefits of various social security schemes like EPF & ESI and group insurance are not provided to them
He demanded for immediate implementation of minimum wages as per Central Government notification and re-employment of all 46 workers failing which the struggle will be intensified.
Sham Parsad Kesar, senior CITU leader said that SAIL is a Central Government undertaking and all workers are eligible for minimum wages as per Central Government but unfortunately workers have been paid a meager wages as per State Government notification.
He urged upon the authority to appoint a judicial enquiry so that the management of SAIL should be punished for this biggest scam. Other spoke on this occasion were B.K Vaid, H.D Bhomick, Ramesh Chand, Jeet Raj and Kailash Chand Nayak.
